S Marcham
Hello, was hoping for some advice. Every now and then the students will be asked to reset their passwords on the school computers/network or their password might expire and need to be reset. Sometimes their password expires at the weekend or in the school holidays and this effects them logging onto the VLE as they can’t log in because their password has expired. Its not until they come back into school to reset their password that they can then log back into the VLE. This causes us problems, specially now as we want students to log on at home to check their homework. Does anyone else experience this or have any advice? THaines
We have the exact same issue. I think if their accounts are AD linked then there isn't a way around it, that I'm aware of. What is the password policy on your system? How often are they forced to change their passwords? When school holidays are looming, we send out emails/notices asking staff and students to change their passwords, to stop this happening, but they don't always do! S Marcham
Hello, Thank you for your replies, it seems we have similar issues! Our accounts are AD linked, I think we may have to send out similar notices as well, although unfortuantely I can see this not working for everyone. Thank again
Graham Quince
I never handled the AD for my school's network, but could you disable the auto-expiry and switch to a manual expiry? That way you could ensurethe resets all happen mid-week instead of every 60 days
S Marcham
Thanks Graham, I will ask the IT/Network people if they know anything
clangstaff
@S Marcham We also experienced this issue. We found the best way to manage this was to force a password reset at the very start of a new term at the start of a week. This way those who have forgotten their password anyway get a new one, and most users will get reset prior to the weekend when they cannot. It is also worth putting a notice out to all users that this is happening and if they are locked out of Frog they need to reset their password and if they do not have access to the school network the technicians can reset their password for them until they do gain access. S Marcham
@clangstaff Thank you, this all makes sense, will suggest we do similar here.
ADT
We only expire our password once a year.... three weeks before the summer holidays... so students will be forced to change there password when they log onto the school network before they break up!! Doesn't that cause problems? Students trying to remember passwords they set before the summer?

Why no.... the kids that actually care and will log onto frog during the summer will remember.......... everyone else would have forgotten over summer anyway!!!
