  1. Hi everyone

Our Headteacher would like to have an area on Frog whereby staff can record all their development documentations - lesson obs, targets etc. etc. We thought their personal dashboards could be useful for this but the Head wants to be able to see them too (and I don't really want to her to have full admin access on Frog) and there's no way that we can control their personal dashboards, as ideally we'd want them all to look the same.

I thought we could then create a site called something like 'Staff Development' and create a tab for each member of staff and use rules to hide it so that only the individual can view their own page, with their HoD and the Head can view everyone's. As this would be for all teaching staff, this could become quite a hefty site so I thought maybe creating a staff development site for each faculty but I'm not so sure.

What do you think? Is there anything else I could do? Has anyone done anything similar at their school? It's great that we want to use Frog for this sort of thing but it always seems quite awkward to try and set something up exactly as they want it.

  2. Hello

We've got one of our Sixth Formers doing the Photography at the Year 11 prom. He wanted to know if there was a secure area we could upload these onto Frog, then, once parents have purchased the images, they could then access the page and download the images. Can anyone think of a way of achieving this? I'm also going to speak to our website provider, as I think it may be easier through our website than it would on Frog. If not, does anyone know any other online services that we could use? Obviously once a parent has access to the site, they could then download and pass them around to other parents but I don't think there's a way of avoiding that!

    Thanks in advance.

  3. What's the point in this widget? It's so clunky and un-user friendly it's making life more difficult. Annoyingly it's not showing in the Group & Policies app, so I can't disable it at the moment (service desk are sorting this).

Why can't we just have a nice, simple widget for a slideshow of images that works in the same way as the file drop, with just a big upload and delete button.

    Or am I missing something?

  4. Thanks for this @clangstaff - you're right, linked documents is a nightmare. I've just pulled in Year 8 documents and there's 121 pages...I'm not sitting here going through them all to disable everything except reports! Apparently by default FrogLearn pulls everything is but disables it all by default, so still a manual job to go through and enable what you want. I'm not sure what happens if you run another import after enabling/disabling certain documents and whether the new import will overwrite.

I'd be really interested to find out what this other system you're using is - can you drop me a message or email please?

  5. Hi all

Our Senior Team would like to look at sending student reports through Frog, as opposed to printing them and sending them home via the child. Has anyone managed to achieve this through Frog or have any ideas on how this might work? Importantly, they also want the parents to have to tick something to say they have read the report, in the same way they sign a slip of paper and send it back via their child.

    Any ideas/solutions welcome!

  6. Hi John

I can't say that I've come across the same issue that you've highlighted, although I don't think I've ever delved that much into the detail of the stats. I do, however, find issues with the stats whereby downloading one report says one thing and downloading another report, with the same dates etc., displays a very different set of results!

Also, I'm not sure how the analytics exactly work but when I go into sites within the analytics, it still displays sites which have been deleted in the list.

  7. @paulmitchell1989 It's not to do with browser security settings, it's a FrogLearn thing. They used to have formatting but it was removed (not entirely sure why), hence anything you copy/paste from anything (including Word docs @clangstaff) it strips all formatting. It's hugely irritating...I believe there is an idea on the Ideas Portal to bring formatting back.

  8. Hi @S Marcham

We too have Frog3 and FrogLearn and have our website in Frog3 - www.trinitynewbury.org. It serves its purpose at the moment but is very time consuming to update etc. and is now causing issues as it's not mobile friendly and is optimised for IE only. I did try and re-create something similar in FrogLearn but as others have mentioned, I couldn't get the layout right and with next to no knowledge of css and html I couldn't achieve anything near what I wanted. I also looked at WordPress but again it didn't fit our needs.

In the end we decided to go with a true website company, e4education, who we are currently working with to create new websites for us and the other two schools in our trust. It's a very expensive option but definitely worth it if you want a properly, intuitive website which is easy to manage!

  9. I'm currently looking into the way we use calendars and am interested to know what others currently use for staff/parent calendars?

We used to have our main staff calendar in a giant word document which used to get printed at the beginning of the year for every person and then printed various times throughout the year as and when it changed. We decided to move this onto the Frog calendar, scrapping all paper copies, and this has gone down fairly well.

With regards to a parent calendar on our website, we currently just have a PDF document, containing a table listing all the main events. When anything is changed, I'm just sent a new version and I upload it. We also have an 'Upcoming Events' bit on our main page which I manually amend, adding/removing events etc.

We're now getting a new website and I'm trying to think of a way to streamline this. The FrogLearn calendar can't be exported therefore I'm looking to transfer everything to either an Office 365 calendar or Google calendar. What I'd really like is one calendar, with the option to label things as either 'Staff' (only visible to staff), 'Parents' (only visible to parents) or 'Both' (visible to both) therefore removing the need to have multiple calendars and having to replicate workload across different calendars/documents. The only way I can see this working at the moment is to have a Google Calendar with two calendars within it but then any events that both staff and parents needed to see would have to add to each calendar individually, therefore doubling the workload.

Does anyone know of any or use a good system that works well?

  10. So I'm being brave and trying out a bit of html (well, copying everyone else's!) and I've managed to create a gallery slideshow on one of my dashboards - very proud! ^_^

Is there a way of setting the default font? I've found the way of setting the default text size but the ability to change the default font to Arial would be good too!

  11. We use Xibo here...an ex colleague of mine set it up but I now manage it on a day-to-day basis. Just one TV so far in one of our main corridors but there are plans to get one in Reception in the near future I believe. Seems to work well and fairly easy to manage and update.

  12. Hello all

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share screen shots of their dashboards (staff, students, parents etc.). I've never been able to get mine to look 'right' (mainly staff dash that is, I quite like my student and parent dashs') and would love some inspiration from others!

To get the ball rolling, attached are our 3 dashboards as they currently stand.

  13. Thanks Corinne - we do have a CPD site but he was keen on something on the main dashboard (me not so much as I like to keep it clean & tidy!). I like your suggestion about using an actual blog...shame it's just another one of those things that we have to set up externally and embed! I'll have a play and see what we can come up with.

  14. We use it here George and have done since we've had Frog. We have it set up on the 4 staff room machines, to provide remote access at home. There has been a few issues in the past but as far as I'm aware, it's working and staff enjoy the benefit of being able to access SIMS (and therefore write reports) from home.
