  1. Hi all

this is probably a feature request as much as anything.

As a SEN residential school we have therapy input both in school and for our residential provision. What we would like to be able to do is ask all teachers to assess therapy targets for each particular class. These are likely to be generic statements that can applied to every student in the class for example 'Being able to listen to other's opinions'.  We could include these targets as descriptors in each particular curricular strand, however this would confuse when running reports as we want to be able to assess academic progress separately from therapy interventions (such as speech and language or occupational therapy for example).

We could include speech and language as a separate curriculum, however this wouldn't give us the rich, contextual information that our therapist need. For example, they want to know if a student is reaching a target in one subject, or class and not another. This would allow really targeting therapy interventions, in any given setting or context.

The only way I could think this could work is being able to assign a 'Therapy' tag to a target, much like a KPI. This would allow you to run reports on on progress on therapy targets but with the ability to exclude these from academic reports.

The tag could be applied to any a target/descriptor separate from the core curriculum itself but which could be tracked alongside academic progress to give rich, contextual information.

In theory, it could be a 'behaviour' tag, a 'Therapy' tag', anything a school/teacher thinks is important to track alongside academic progress.

Lemme know what you think. : )

  2. Hi all,

e-portfolios, or a site per student is something we may be interested in implementing. We are a small specialist school of up to 50 students, so we don't have a large cohort so could potentially put a fair amount of detail into each portfolio. I've had a look at the templates provided by Frog. It's worth mentioning that because of small cohort we don't use sims, although I am pushing for it (not only for it's uses within Frog).

What I haven't quite figured out is how to implement them in Frog. Ie, how and where would they sit in frog, for each student? Maybe I'm missing something really simple, but the only way I can see is to put each student into a group of their own, and use rules to only show the site link for their own portfolio from the student homepage.

This can't be the smartest  or intended way to implement these?

Just out of interest, those of you who are using Office365, how much training time have your staff had? And does your school development plan include plans for use of online documents?

I ask because I'm noticing a trend in schools: those who have adopted G-Suite have ongoing training for their staff to show how to get the best out of the online tools, whereas those schools who have chosen Office365 have made their choices not based on classroom requirements as much as convenience of set up (I'm sure it's not the case for all) and the assumption that training is not need.  The end result being that the Google schools are using online collaboration tools well and the Office365 schools are using OneDrive as a file store.  I'm not trying to throw shade on anyone's choices, but I am curious as to why you've decided on Office365 over other options.  Were you (the VLE / Frog champion) included in the decision?

For what it's worth, at Frog, I have access to both Office365 and G-Suite.  Personally, I find G-Suite much easier to use for collaboration, document editing/sharing etc... Office365 has some clunky features to it that slow down working.  But that's my personal opinion.  Everyone's choice is valid here.  9_9

We perfectly fit the trend you have noticed. Indeed we did once use G-Suite, I really liked it.

There is an example of digital signage on our concept-demo site.  That used the notice board widget to add messages.   I know @gbligh uses iPads and Frog for digital signage.

Thanks Graham, where can I find this concept site, I couldn't see it in the Frog Store?

This is a good idea, thank you for sharing. This would work better than FireSticks, as it mentions that it can open multiple tabs and rotate to them automatically, which sounds great. That could be a few 'published to the web' sites.

As an aside, I'm floating two ideas 1) An interactive touch screen kiosk, 2) A digital student information screen, but I'm more interested in seeing if digital signage would work first before I go interactive touch screen.

I am hoping that using Frog is more cost effective and easier to manage than many of the paid for or open source signage solutions.

  5. I've just stumbled into this thread after having the aforementioned 'it doesn't work with IE' issues. My explanation that 'IE isn't particularly good, please use Chrome, or you know, click the google image and it'll open Google in a new tab' was met with disgruntled responses of 'nothing ever works'. Gah!

Anyway my google search bar looks ugly, I poached it from elsewhere and changed the dimensions, so I'd be interested in a pretty cool Google Search widget @Chris.Smith

  6. I wondered how much Frog is used for digital signage by other schools?

I am wondering whether Frog could provide a good solution for us, by using android devices (touchscreens and firesticks plugged into TVs), kiosk software and Frog, I think we could create a pretty powerful digital signage solution. I'm just musing at the moment, but it is something I think my SLT would go for, and would help our students with maps of school, information about upcoming events and changes, etc.

    Any thoughts.

  7. We use 365, if we could embed Sharepoint document libraries into Frog, that would be amazing for us. We use MS365 for all of our collaborative documentation, reports etc Lots of different things. We've now got Frog ADFS and are moving towards Office 365 ADFS too.

The silver bullet for us would be both onedrive and sharepoint integration, and easier document embedding. Sharepoint is huge for us in terms of collaborative working, but building sharepoint sites is so much more difficult for the average user than building frog sites, which is one of the reasons we've stuck with Frog.

If students could submit their work which is saved in OneDrive from Frog, that would be pretty cool.

  8. Hi Graham a virtual tour will be really helpful, is that possible for next week?

We had a progress demo activated a while back which whilst I know is unusual for Frog it helped me convince our leadership team it was worth their time to have a frog rep in to show a bit more of progress.

Anyway, we already have access to curriculum designer, student tracker and reporting. I wondered whether this was a hangover from our trial or whether all Learn customers have this?

I've just been assured that we are going Frog Progress, which I'm pleased about because it looks amazing to me.

  9. Hi all,

this may sound like a really silly question, but I've been asked to look at the curriculum designer before we go ahead with committing to Frog Progress (a product we don't currently have but are strongly considering) and I was wondering how I import the national curriculum along with all the learning objectives for each subject?

Its likely that I will be asked to support teachers with this when the time comes.

  10. Hi Froggies,

I'm looking to centralise our laptop booking system. I am going to create a 'Mr Booking' account that is going to be displayed on a computer screen next to the laptop cabinet to help us keep track of where computers are.

I just wanted to know how to make the booking calendar full screen without showing the Frogbar?

    Thank you in advance.

  11. HI all,

does anyone have any resources they would be happy to share to teach students how to actually use Frog? Something student friendly that would show them how to access and complete assignments, how to work their dashboard, how to navigate frog etc?

Anything you have would be greatly appreciate, an enterprising support teacher has approached me for resources (going above an beyond to teach students Frog) and I wondered whether the community would come to my aid? Sites, videos, guides anything would be great!

    Thank you in advance!

  12. First of all, apologies, my technical understanding regarding this is limited.  Is it possible to enable single sign on, using active directory when our FrogLearn platform is hosted in the Cloud (Manchester), and not on the site of our school? Our VLE is in need of development, and single sign on is one of things that I think will help improve our use of Frog.

I've been told this isn't possible, but I'm wondering what possibilities there are. Something like RM unify? etc?

Thank you in advance for any replies.
