  1. Looking for some advice for one of our dyslexic students - last year she was brought an e-pen to help her in lessons and we are now looking at buying something to record more of her lessons and something for to also use audio books. The request from the member of staff was 'iPad or similar'. I am thinking something which can record clearly, possibly take notes by voice and read back, colour filter for the device to help her reading. What have you found to be most useful for dyslexic students? Any particular device, apps or services which you would recommend?
  2. yes that makes sense - I am not with it either I have just realised I posted this in T&L! I may do that if there isn't a file option, this would cut down a couple of steps/clicks for them which was the point in this. Thanks
  3. Not sure if this is possible in Frog but worth a shot! We have just started using the frog template for the printing requests - Our resources department are happy with their form and the email notification they get with the job details listed however they then have to go into Frog to to the page to get to the file drop to view the related file. Is there a way (in or out of Frog) where a form can be created, displayed through Frog, staff to complete fields, add a file and then the results and file be sent to our resources manager. It would need to be something which can be easily managed and bonus if it can be done in Frog. The other option we considered was having a direct link to the Frog page in the form so when the email saying form submitted was sent to the resource manager he can click this to get back to the file drop, however he would still need to log in (as many support staff do not use frog daily unless they need to)
  4. Had to look around to find this number, ours is 826:35:25 this year - we have a few departments who use it a lot, IT introduce it to year 7s and all years are encouraged to use it for revision interdependently. MFL use it for custom made quizzes, science have recently created their whole year assessment for y8 on it and are very pleased that the one quiz can be created and then set by all teachers to all classes and it self marks - saved their department hours and hours of work. As for promotion there is an app link on both student and staff dashboards and play has also been a topic of T&L emails and frog drop ins which we run to showcase to staff what it is capable of.
  5. Yes I used that and made changes. all mock ups were done in fireworks as images, this was a long project of mine when I began at this school. The address is www.bishopschester.co.uk
  6. We did. I found a few issues with it, like you said its not as easy to achieve the look you want, it can be done but it takes work. I also found that my designs on my PC matched my mock ups, when sent over to Frog there was some issues in translation it seems as when it was applied it changed a few things - mainly positioning and sizes. This resulted in us having to get Frog to help us make those things go back to how we needed them. Its also a bit of a pain if things in your theme need changing, for example we have links to web-mail and portal in the header part of our theme, if these links change then we have to request this be done through them so not as instant as editing in Frog 3. This is something I did not think would be an issue at the time.
  7. I am hoping to be done with Frog 3 soon so this wouldn't fix the issue for very long. @Graham Quince I will try that now thanks
  8. @Graham Quince although not as 'pretty' as the twitter feed that solution works! Thanks
  9. Hi, Can anyone help with the twitter widget please? We have a few dotted around our platform from various subjects and we also have 2 on our school website on the homepage (which is a frog learn site). These do not display and this is causing issues as staff use these to post updates and news and if they are not showing on out public site it is missing a big chunk of information. I tired the fix which was mentioned here a while ago, this displayed the feeds for I think about a day or 2 and then they have gone back to displaying the message "Tweets by...." as link to the twitter, but not actually showing the feed. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it? I have the head of school, head of ICT and head of sixth form all wanting these fixed but I cannot work out what the issue is.

    Google Search Bar!!

This is something we would find really useful too. Never did get the Frog 3 one to work well before we switched our website over.
  11. @Graham Quince good to hear about the mark schemes that will be useful. I tried to embed the calendar - does this work with Frog 3/learn or is it just a Frog learn thing? As I got the 'An unexpected error occurred' message when I tried it.
  12. Just had the December newsletter forwarded to me (Which for some reason I don't get?) and in there it mentions 'In the new year' so I would guess then? I would like to know about the updates mentioned (sorry to hijack!) but it says: Myself and my the head of ICT here would like to know what this means, do custom mark schemes mean he will be able to use A*-U in the assignment manager? And as for the calendar with homework's - does this mean I would be able to embed a calendar onto a dashboard/site and this display each students calendar to them and display homework's? I remember reading something about this a while ago but not sure if that was here or somewhere else like the idea portal.

    SEN site

@ADT Thanks for that - I have thought about customisation in that way but we currently use a free program called colour veil which students can access on any machine from a shared drive, as the majority of issues our students have in that respect is Irlens/dyslexia. It would be good to see what else could be done in this way but I feel like it could be a case of duplication of the dashboard which would become a pain in the long run. We currently have those kinds of links down the side of the student dashboard, things like accelerated reader, my maths and log ins etc. I was thinking for this more like things to help students with catch up skills or advice sites. It was also mentioned a while ago that this may only be shared with those pupils who are in our SEN curriculum program but I can see the benefit of it being open to all as a link too.

    SEN site

Not sure if this is in the right place but does anyone have a specific area on Frog for SEN information/resources or anything similar? It is something myself and another member off staff feel would be of benefit and we feel examples would definitely encourage the SEN department to look into it further. They do not use Frog at all really in their roles, apart from the staff dashboard so I would like visual examples of what it can do and how it can help pupils. My ideas were to have a staff section to have documents relating to SEN, a student and parent area where any links to external sites such as maths and English skills, helplines or resource sites, advice etc can be posted. Also the curriculum here could be posted as we run a separate curriculum with some integration to mainstream lessons.
  15. Nested pages might work! I am currently using a holding page for 'Other staff' with links available to governors for their site and other staff have the same but to the staff dashboard site, and none have the other dashboards which are for students and parents. Then on top of that staff governors have to search for the governor page, although I will probably make a button only visible to them once its up and running fully on the staff dashboard.

    Twitter

Twitter is not blocked, it has worked in the past but had another complaint today from a dept. that their twitter widget won't load at all. I will try another site and embed it.

    Twitter

I am sure I saw a work around for having various twitter widgets on one page/site not long ago, but I can't seem to find it now. We use learn for our public website and we have 2 twitter feeds on the main homepage and 1 on the sixth form page. These would not show all together, I applied the fix (which I know can't find) and they displayed, I have changed nothing since but now again they are not showing. All you see if the hyperlink 'Tweets by @username' Does anyone know why that is, and how to fix it? Thanks!
  18. I did not get a notification about this being updated, but yes we are using the application link for now - it is not being launched yet anyway but there for when it is. I am using the outline of the planer portfolio from the Frog Store - do you have any idea of when the code for that, to create one site for each student, will be available?

    Dashboards

Our student dash is being totally redone at the moment to be turned into more of a planner, the staff one will be reworked soon just to look a bit tidier, the parent one is useful if you have parent log in (I didn't want to spend the time doing that!) but you can see the idea here of what information it would show a parent. They also have a links and files page, this is split up into generic for links, and year groups for files so only relevant parents can see relevant files, for example letters for trips.
  20. After speaking on Friday I came up with a list of things which have been requested by teachers, or I would find useful: - Rollover image with link ability - Map location for our main site - In built twitter/intsagram/other social feed without staff needing HTML widget - A timer or stopwatch, to use on lesson plans - Accordion menus - this has been used in the HTML widget but I know a lot of staff who would make use but would not understand the html
  21. We have a T&L / CPD site which is editable by a handful of staff. Pages for different topics. Would something like that work? Or how would he feel about having an actual blog on an easy to use platform, which you then embed into a Frog page?
  22. Yes that was one option but it wouldn't be that simple it turns out. We have staff needing access to all dashboards with their log in group, other non teaching staff (who currently use the same log in group as staff) not having access to the student dashboard or parent one, and then governors needing access to a completely different site with none of the staff information at all. I hope that makes sense. I mean I know I could create something with rules but I feel it would get quite complicated based on what I need it for and the amount of groups of people we have/dashboards available
  23. How do you organise your different members of staff and their access to dashboards/sites? We currently have teaching and non teaching staff in AD and all have access to staff and student dashboard as they are all just staff in Frog. I have been asked today to add all of the kitchen staff we now employ internally, and cleaners and any other staff to Frog so they have access to the staff dashboard for policies ect. If I do this and they are added as staff they are then able to view student details too which I do not want. I was going to add them as other but we also need to add governors in the near future and they would need their own dashboard and have no access to anything staff or student. Staff dashboard is already set up and functional. my original idea was to set staff (teachers and TAs) to staff, all other to other then on that dashboard have 2 site links - 1 to staff and one to govenors, then neither will have the student dashboard and governors wont see staff as they link wont show. Am I making this more complicated than it needs to be? Is there an easier way around this?
  24. Is there a widget, or a way or creating a link to, the students assignment widget - much like the way staff can have the assignment manager? I would like to add this under the custom table which shows the most recent assignments so students can open their full list and also see any marks they have received.
  25. I meant, if assignment is complete..
